The newest edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020 places the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (FHTM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in the 31st position among the universities which offer Hospitality and Leisure Management.

FHTM UiTM has climbed almost 100 positions (2019) to become the only public university in Malaysia listed among the top 50 of the QS World University Ranking by Subjects 2020.

At the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (FHTM)(UiTM), we take our reputation seriously. For a start, we are the pioneer in hospitality and tourism education in Malaysia. FHTM UiTM has achieved privileged national and international reputation for teaching and research excellence for more than 50 years. This ranking takes into consideration FHTM UiTM national and international academic reputation and how valued FHTM UiTM’s students are for employers and, also, how prepared the graduates are for their future professional life.

To put FHTM on the world map requires tremendous efforts in strategising and realigning the blueprint of academic, students’ affairs, research and networking of the faculty. FHTM works hard to strengthen industry collaboration and partnerships with employers and these are important factors in the measure of employability in these rankings. Frequent meet-the-industry sessions such as the 21 hours with the industry, PATA career fair, 'Knock-our-Door' recruitment sessions were organized to ensure students were equipped with the latest development in the industry. As a result, FHTM graduates were highly demanded locally as well as in Singapore and the Middle East; fulfilling the needs of industry-ready and highly capable talent.

The formulation of international engagement took into account active participation with the regional association such as Tourism Educators Association of Malaysia (TEAM) and the Asia Pacific Institute for Events Management (APIEM) that able to connect FHTM with other hospitality and tourism educational institutions. Our close networking with Tourism Malaysia, PATA Malaysian Chapter and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC) Malaysia allowed us to learn from the best. The investment in fostering student and staff mobility was able to create an international atmosphere in the faculty.

FHTM always strives to be among the best in the hospitality and leisure subject. It is still work in progress, but the investment has well paid off by being ranked as the 31st in the world.
