22 June 2020 -The ‘Bengkel Pemantapan Ranking Champion’ organised by the Achievement and Ranking Unit, InQKA had an overwhelming turnout of 65 Ranking Champions (RCs) who stayed online from 9 am to 4 pm to listen to updates and current status of ranking in UiTM.

The workshop was launched by the Assistant Vice Chancellor of InQKA, Professor Dr. Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor who highlighted on the importance of international collaboration with universities as a strategy to improve UiTM’s ranking. RCs were reminded to assist the deans in this strategy by identifying PhD supervisors and establish partnership regionally and internationally. Prof Roziah also commended the RCs who have been contributing very consistently to QS Wow News as a medium of visibility, and a vote of thanks also was given  to Nurul Muzamel Rasidi, Senior Curator from Gesturz who curated very creatively an advertisement in the 2021 QS WUR Ranking Supplement.

The morning session saw the Head of Achievement and Ranking Unit, InQKA, Ir. Dr. Amirul Abd Rashid giving an update on current status and strategic directions of InQKA on ranking matters. He also discussed on strategies to improve UiTM ranking aligned to achieving UiTM 2025 target. He welcomed the newly appointed RCs and thanked the senior RCs for their support and cooperation in providing data whenever required. He talked in detail on matters ranging from various rankings which UiTM participates in, the e-RTS review system and finally highlighted the critical role RCs play in achieving UiTM’s Renowned University status.

The second session was by the Coordinator of Achievement and Ranking Unit, InQKA, Sr. Dr. Norazian Mohamad Yusuwan, who held a walk-through on subject indicators & simulation results based on QS ranking, Times Higher Education and SETARA. Participants were exposed to related ranking websites which they could refer to get deeper insights on specific ranking needs.

In the ‘VC meet RC’ session, the RCs were very happy to listen to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Ir. Dr. Mohd Azraai Kassim speak on ranking and its importance. The VC highlighted why ranking is so crucial for a university and why it needs to be improved as it influences the perception of stakeholders in terms of benchmarking and marketing and branding. RCs also listened to some strategies VC gave on improving UiTM’s ranking.

Mr. Chong E Way, the Regional Director, for QS South East Asia, gave a very detailed session on QS ranking indicators, methodology, UiTM’s  current ranking status amidst other universities and what are some of the strategies to improve ranking.

The last session saw Assoc.Prof Dr.Geetha Subramaniam, Fellow, InQKA giving some insights into InQKA’s visibility initiative highlighting faculty activities via various platforms especially QS Wow news. She also thanked all RCs for their encouraging write-ups for the whole of 2019 and guided on visibility initiatives as the way forward.

It was a very engaging and effective workshop as many of the RCs were actively engaged in discussion on ranking indicators, ranking information and strategies on the way forward for UiTM.
