IQA is placed under the direct purview of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of InQKA.
The main tasks performed by IQA are:
- Academic Programme Evaluation for Accreditation Purposes
- Assessing Curriculum Review Document to ensure compliance to MQA COPPA, MQF and respective MQA programme standard
- Site Visit to New Location to Ensure Programme Educational Resources and Support Services are sufficient and comply to the MQA COPPA, MQF and respective MQA programme standard requirements.

Introduction
New academic programme has to undergo two accreditation processes, namely; Provisional Accreditation (PA) and Full Accreditation (FA):
-
Provisional Accreditation (PA) is an endorsement of assurance that the specific programme fulfils the minimum requirement for it to be offered. This level is connected to seeking approval from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to conduct the new programme.
-
Full Accreditation (FA) is a conferment to denote that the teaching, learning and all other related activities of a programme has met all the criteria and standards set for that purpose and in compliance with the MQF. It is done before the graduation of the first cohort.
COPPA 2nd Edition 2017 requires continual review of the programme to ensure its currency and relevance. Programme may be reviewed continuously or periodically. The review involving changes exceeding thirty percent (30%), notification of the changes must be submitted to MQA. Thus, IQA needs to assess the curriculum review document to ensure compliance to MQA COPPA, MQF and respective MQA programme standard.

Registration at MQR is based on location of the programme offered. Therefore, any additional location for the existing programme need to be registered at MQR. Thus, a site visit audit to the new location to ensure programme educational resources and support services need to be conducted to ensure its sufficiency and at the same time comply to the MQA COPPA, MQF and respective MQA programme standard requirements.

An academic programme which is accredited by a professional body need to submit accreditation application document through IQA. IQA will then forward the application to MQA which will then forward it to the respective professional body for assessment. Upon approval of the application, IQA will register the program at Malaysian Qualification Register (MQR).

Transnational education is where an academic programme is offered in a different country from the one where the awarding institution is based. IQA will evaluate the capacity and capability of Partner Institution for Transnational Education.
